In the Netherlands, the last day of Carnival (karnaval) is held exactly 40 days before eastern, making the days of celebration vary as far as from 8 january to 28 february becayse karnaval starts 4 weeks before this 40 days before eastern. Carnival in The Netherlands is the oldest in the west of the southern province Noord Brabant. Here carnival is known as Vastenavend {literally "Fastig eveneng" with the delibrate typo" Most popular and even renownd places where Vastenavend is held(altought every city, town or village celebrates it) are Bergen op Zoom, Breda, Den Bosch and Lepelstraat carnival here has been celebrated ever since the medieval times and was modernized after WW II, Bergen op Zoom even continued to celebrate it indoors, altough the Germans forbid this fest, and now is the most popular and crowded place to celebrate "Vastenavend"
